International Travel

Below are Customs and Border Protection (CBP) procedures for international commercial travelers arriving at McAllen International Airport. This covers the CBP process from start to finish.

Once you board the plane you will receive a 6059B Customs Declaration Form. Each arriving traveler or one responsible family member must complete this form. All items being declared must be documented on the 6059B.

After disembarking from the plane you will enter the Federal Inspection Services (FIS) area. Depending on your immigration status you will either line up in the U.S. Citizens & Resident Aliens line or the U.S. visitors line. You will then be greeted by a Customs and Border Protection Officer, and at this point you will present your documents and Customs Declaration Form to the CBP Officer. After being cleared by the CBP Officer you will then proceed to the baggage carousel.

Once you have all of your baggage you will present yourself, your Customs Declaration Form and your baggage to the CBP Officers and CBP Agriculture Specialists in secondary. After greeting you, the CBP Officer/CBP Agriculture Specialist will offer you an opportunity to amend your declaration. If you are selected for additional screening, the CBP Officer/CBP Agriculture Specialist will examine your bags and luggage for prohibited or regulated items.

Once you have been cleared to continue your journey you are then able to leave the FIS through either of the double doors and proceed to the elevator directly in front or the ramp to the left to arrive at the main lobby.
